The following resources describe diction rules and practices to be employed when singing in various languages. Several use the International Phonetic Alphabet to demonstrate examples. Diction resources are located at the call number MT 883.

The majority of the resources listed below describe the vocal repertoire in a given area. They can serve as a guide to finding music for performance. Several also provide additional information such advice about interpretation and translations (literal and/or poetic). This list is not comprehensive.

Use these resources to find IPA transcriptions, phonetic readings as well as complete texts and translations of vocal repertoire. Most translations are located at the call number ML 54.6.

Songs, Arias & Lieder

Leyerle Publications has published various volumes of art song translations and transcriptions. These may be found in the Reference Collection at  ML 48-49.  This list is not complete.  Search the library catalog using the keyword "libretti" and composer's name to find additional libretti & phonetic translations.
