Citation Styles for Music

Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to provide a variety of examples of bibliographic citations of music sources in the following styles;

For each style, specific examples of how to cite books, e-books, journal articles, encyclopedia articles, sound recordings, DVDs and other electronic resources are provided.

You will also find links to other web resources that provide additional information on each style manual.

The guide is organized first by the style manual (APA, Chicago or MLA) and then by the format/type of resource to be cited (book, journal article, dissertation etc.).

This guide is not intended to replace a style manual.   You may access the APA, Chicago and MLA Style manuals in the Ritter and Jones Music Libraries.   Call numbers are provided within this guide.
