Ritter Library Hours and Policies: Loan Periods

Loan Periods and Limits

Loan periods and limits are determined by the type of material and the category of borrower. The information below is listed by type of material and is qualified, where necessary, by category of borrower.

Books:

Circulating books are loaned to:

  1. BW faculty members, administrators and library staff for a period of six weeks without restriction as to number, subject to recall if needed.
  2. BW students for a period of three weeks.

Circulating books can be renewed up to six times.

Renewals occur automatically unless there is a hold request on the item or the max number of renewals has been reached.  Renewals can also be accomplished by patrons using My Account on the OPAL catalog Web interface or by telephone by calling 440-826-2204.

Office and Rare Books:

Office books circulate to faculty, library staff and administrators only, for three days, limited to a maximum of ten items. Rare books do not circulate.

Reference Materials:

Reference materials circulate to faculty, library staff and administrators, for three days, with a maximum of ten items. Materials are subject to recall by the library when needed. Ready Reference materials do not circulate under any circumstances.

DVDs:

DVDs circulate to Baldwin Wallace students, faculty and staff for 21-days, with a maximum of five items.  DVDs from OhioLINK and SearchOhio libraries may have different loan periods based on the owning library's policies.

Microforms:

Microforms do not circulate.

iPads, Surface tablets, and AudioVisual Items:

Lending has been suspended due to COVID-19.

Checked-out items:

Due to COVID-19, all physical items borrowed from Ritter Library (including those items from OhioLINK or SearchOhio institutions) will be quarantined for a minimum of three days prior to being checked in.  You might receive an overdue notice for an item you have returned due to that timing; we apologize for any confusion.  Books can be returned at any time in the book drop located outside Ritter Library's front door.

You can check the status of your borrowed items by visiting My Account on the OPAL catalog Web interface.

If you have any circulation-related questions, please call 440-826-2204 OR send an email to circ@bw.edu
