Online exhibits from the RBI

Heinrich Gerber's Manuscript of the Well-tempered Clavier

Among the Riemenschneider Bach Institute's most-treasured items is a manuscript of Bach's Wohltemperierte Clavier (Well-Tempered Clavier) copied in 1725 by Bach's student Heinrich Gerber. The RBI has served as steward of this manuscript since Dr. Albert Riemenschneider purchased it in 1936. In 2019, the RBI obtained a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), to restore and preserve the manuscript. The restoration work was performed in January 2020 and this exhibit was created by Conservatory Librarian Paul Cary in lieu of a planned physical exhibit.

Student exhibits, Spring 2023

In Spring 2023, students in Dr. Danielle Kuntz's History and Literature 3 course created online exhibits. Working with items from the Frederick Freedman Collection, students selected a composer and work that interested them. They researched the composer and the work and created an exhibit featuring text and images. Their work has uncovered hidden gems and highlighted the human side of musicmaking.

Online exhibits created by students of Dr. Christina Fuhrmann, Fall 2020

In the fall semester of 2020, students in Dr. Christina Fuhrmann’s MUC 321 Music History & Literature 3 class worked individually or in groups to create virtual exhibits for items from the RBI digital collections. Students took time to examine their item, research it and configure their exhibits for a digital format.
