As we transition to this new experience of distance learning - and learning distance - there are challenges for all of us. The libraries are here to help with those relating to resources and research.
Jones Library and the Riemenschneider Bach Institute are closed until further notice. Library staff are working remotely and will be available to help. See box below.
Ritter Library is open to current BW students, faculty and staff from 12p - 7p, Monday - Friday, by tap access. For your safety and the safety of staff in the building, do not allow anyone to follow you into the building. Please practice social distancing (at least 6 feet of space) to prevent the spread of germs. Students, faculty, and staff are restricted to the Entry area and the Main Floor. The Ground and Second floors are closed to the public. We are no longer circulating any physical materials.
Fortunately, there is a wealth of electronic resources that you can access from anywhere. We have far more ebooks on music than we do physical books, and ten times as many electronic journals as print ones. See the other tabs of this guide. If you need help with using any of these or any other aspect of your studies, please contact me at pcary@bw.edu.
Most due dates have been extended and we will be waiving the few fines that may accrue. So don’t worry about returning things right away. If you have ensemble music, please watch for an announcement on how to proceed. Please hold onto any OhioLINK items for now.
HELP AND LINKS
Library home pages:
For ebooks and other materials, use the library’s catalog at https://cat.opal-libraries.org/search~S3/X. You may want to use the Material Type limit to restrict your search to EBOOKS or MUSICAL RECORDING.
Our list of online music resources is at http://libguides.bw.edu/OnlineMusicResources. These are only paid services to which we subscribe directly. These links should work from off-campus.
Paul Cary, Conservatory Librarian, is available remotely to assist BW students, faculty, and staff. I am monitoring my phone (440-826-8074), responding to emails (pcary@bw.edu), and available for video chat or screen-sharing to solve problems for faculty and students.
I am happy to help with all inquiries, but if your question involves disciplines other than music, you may want to start with the god folks at Ritter Library. See http://libguides.bw.edu/remote.
Reference Librarians are listed below: the Subject areas we cover are listed below our individual phone numbers. Feel free to contact us if you have a question about an assignment in one of our areas.
