Diversity in Music

About this Guide

This guide will attempt to highlight resources on the music of marginalized people and groups, and to make those resources more accessible to the Baldwin Wallace community.

This is a very large topic and this guide is a beginning. It cannot be comprehensive, and even its organization may be questioned. Terminology in this area can also be difficult and controversial. We welcome any feedback on organization, terminology, approach, or specific resources. Please help us make this guide work for you and for others.

Use this Guide to:

  • Browse books on diverse musical topics using tips found under the "Approaches to Searching" subheading on each page--> Books
  • Find a bibliography of essential resources related to diverse musical topics--> Reference sources
  • Explore web resources of interest to ethnomusicologists located under the "Essential Resources" subheading on each page --> Web Page
  • Search for scholarly articles that contextualize culturally diverse music --> Databases
  • Identify journals that discuss ethnomusicology and queer musicology located under the "Journals" subheading of each page --> Journals
  • Watch media related to culturally diverse music history located under the "Electronic Media" subheading on each page  -->  Audio & Video
