This guide offers links and answers questions for the online learning shift taking place in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Options for books

EBOOKS EBOOKS EBOOKS

Navigate to the BW OPAL Book catalog to search for electronic books that you can access anywhere, anytime. While print books may be difficult to obtain keep in mind that ebooks are great resources now and can be accessed from your location. All Ritter ebook packages are included in the BW Book catalog. Faculty can share links to ebooks and students can search ebooks to find needed texts or supplementary material. You can limit searches to ebooks by clicking Material Type on the search page and then choosing EBOOKS at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Ritter, OhioLINK, OPAL, or SearchOhio items:

To review physical items you have checked out, access your account from the library homepage. Click on "My Account" in the blue menu bars on the left side of the page. You can review BW, OhioLINK, OPAL, and SearchOhio items checked out and see dates due.

Books and DVD's can be returned to any participating OhioLINK library.  Please call that library first to make sure they are able to accept returns.  Due to the quarantining of items, returned materials may continue to display on your library account for several days.

Ritter books and equipment:

Ritter Library stacks are closed.  Books and DVDs may be requested through our online catalog.  When your requested item has been processed, you will receive an email notifying you that it is ready for pickup.  Please call 440-826-2204 before coming to pick up your item.  We will have it checked out for you prior to your arrival for a no-contact solution.  The book drop outside the main doors is available for books and DVD's.  Items may also be returned in person when the building is open (you'll need your ID to tap into the building).  Place returned items in the Return bin underneath the cafe area counter. As of 5/10, we have ceased quarantining returned and incoming OhioLINK items.

Internet Archive

The Internet Archive operates a controlled digital lending library of books, movies, software, web sites, and more. To borrow materials from this site sign up for a free account. Each item can circulate to one borrower at a time for a 14 day lending period.

OhioLINK, OPAL, SearchOhio books

OhioLINK, OPAL, and SearchOhio borrowing has resumed.  Books can be returned in the drop box outside Ritter Library (during open hours items can also be placed in the Return bin in the cafe area) or to any nearby OhioLINK, OPAL or SearchOhio library.  Due to quarantine periods and staffing at all involved libraries, you might receive notification that an item is "overdue" even if you have returned it.  We apologize for any confusion this may cause.  Fines will not be charged on "overdue" items.  If you have any questions about your borrowed materials, please email circ@bw.edu or call us at (440) 826-2204.

Other Libraries

No matter where you live consider your local public library as a potential resource. A wealth of electronic resources may be available to you simply by utilizing your local library website and library card number. If you live in or near Cuyahoga County consider both the Cuyahoga County Public Library and the Cleveland Public libraries. Both offer ebooks, streaming media options, online databases, and online periodicals. If you do not have a public library card many allow digital sign-ups for current access to resources.
