2005: Ernsthausen Hall is Powered by Geothermal Energy

Opened in 1961, Ernsthausen Hall underwent renovations in 2005, becoming the first residential hall in the state of Ohio to use geothermal energy to heat and cool its interior. Baldwin Wallace is dedicated to sustainability. Among its initiatives, BW has two solar arrays, a wind turbine, innovative recycling efforts and a sustainable living-learning community. In 2019, BW was given a silver rating from the international Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.

2006: Richard Durst becomes president

Richard Durst became president in 2006, serving for 6 years until 2012. He is the namesake of the Durst Welcome Center.
